From This Ground, From This Clay is a project which includes ceramics from Diego and photographs taken to him by the great photographer Sterling Trantham around landscapes that represent our natural, historic and cultural identity in this region of México. It is also a small sample of one of Diego's most recent projects in which he shows us other facet as an artist in his eagerness to create and be created while confirming his heritage and commitment with this land ever more threatened by industrial and technological "progress".
This is also a collaboration between two artists sharing their passion for a land we inherited, rich in biodiversity and history. Two artists sharing a vision about preservation of the treasures inherited in the form of the Palanganas, the Piedras Verdes and the Casas Grandes Rivers which have been sanctuaries not only to flora and fauna in Northeastern Chihuahua but also to the diverse human settlements that over millennia have occupied different Cultural groups such as Paquimé and the wrongly called Apaches and in more recent times have given shelter to communities that make us all proud such as Mata Ortiz and its ceramics.
Sterling Trantham is a documentary photographer based in La Mesa Nuevo Mexico USA. He is a member of the National Geographic and a beneficiary of the Willard Van Dyke Scholarship for documentaries in Santa Fe New Mexico. His photography has given him numerous awards both nationally and internationally and has been recognized by the Visual Arts Center in Santa Fe New Mexico for his excellence teaching photography.
